If your older Toyota Prius model isn’t already equipped with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, worry not. It’s possible to upgrade your vehicle to support these systems through software updates or by retrofitting the infotainment system.

Note: A 70-1761 harness and a 95-8239B dash kit are required, as well as a 40-LX11 antenna adaptor.

Choosing the Right DIN and System for Your 2015 and older Toyota Prius

What is a DIN?

The term “DIN” stands for “Duetch Industri Normen,” referring to the standard stereo size established by German automakers in the 1980s. DIN stands for the 2″ x 8″ aperture that a radio fits into. Since then, it has become the industry standard. DOUBLE DIN has the same width as 8″ but is 4″ wide instead of 2″ wide.

The older Toyota Prius has a single DIN opening, so you can look for those sized stereos to retrofit your Prius. There are also systems with “flip out” screens, such as some Bose and Pioneer models, which are compact and can fit into any car with a smaller radio enclosure.

Our Stereo Recommendation

The Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX is a recommended double DIN system, and for single DIN openings, the Pioneer flip-out screen model is recommended.
